There’s a scene in the film Springsteen & I where one of his fans is driving down the road trying to describe what Bruce Springsteen's music means to him, and in the process of talking about it he breaks down into tears unable to finish his thoughts. It's a powerful scene, and I can't think of many artists whose music evokes that kind of reaction out of people. Whose songs are so deeply rooted in the many aspects of being a human being in this world. No band or artist inspires me more than Bruce, so when BDCwire asked me to make their weekly playlist, I spent an entire day putting these songs together and writing about them. I hope you dig it, and if you are in Boston next Friday April 25, come celebrate the release of our new album @ Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub - as Bruce says, “maybe we can cut someplace of our own with these drums and these guitars” Sounds like a good plan to me! Let’s do it.

Thanks for understanding what “Local Losers” is all about, Paste Magazine / Mark Lore.

“Local Losers not only conjures up images of eternal summers through snappy, singalong jams, it very much has a sense of place—you almost feel like you’re running wild in the streets of Beantown, open container in hand…
…It’s frustrated, fucked-up and fun.”

The name of the newly released album by Boston fuzz pedal aficianados Mean Creek is Local Losers, and for good measure, the quartet makes sure to smack the sweet spit out of a self-deprecating scene dynamic with good rockiness just in case you didn’t know they were serious. Be it…

HELL YA!! OUR BABY LOSER HAS BEEN BORN!! Brand new album “Local Losers” is officially out TODAY via Old Flame Records! We are beyond proud of this album and are so excited to share it with you all! In honor of release day, our new music video for “My Madeline” is up now on Stereogum! There’s some weird stuff going on in this thing! "Johnny Allen" is one of "The Best 5 Songs Of The Week" over @ Stereogum. Sandwiched inbetween Parquet Courts & Drake! Pretty sweet. "Local Losers" is out tomorrow on Old Flame Records!

R.I.P. Kurt

It’s hard to believe that Kurt Cobain died 20 years ago today. Part of why is because i feel like his impact and music has been perpetually present ever since. In many ways rock music never moved beyond Nirvana or survived the aftermath. I’ve read so many “rock is dead” articles over the past 20 years. It was definitely never the same at least. Kurt & Nirvana changed my life. I related so much to Nevermind when i was 12 and 13 just learning how to play guitar. Teen Spirit and Polly were two of the first songs i ever learned how to play. For all the people who act like Kurt and Nirvana weren’t that great, i think that’s complete crap. There was something special about him and his songs. You could see yourself in him. All your flaws and pain and joy and beauty. It was a universal thing that millions of people connected to. You can go on and on about your Pavement, and your My Bloody Valentine, and your Sonic Youth all you want but they didn’t have that special thing. I’m working the door at a show today full of teenagers. I’ve seen at least 3 Nirvana/Kurt Cobain t-shirts. 20 years later and kids born in 2000 are still experiencing that connection. That’s powerful stuff.

Mean Creek are in a precarious position leading up to the release of their new album Local Losers, in that they saw most of their fuzzy riffed friends from the Massachusetts indie rock scene like Speedy Ortiz and Potty Mouth release breakthrough albums a year ago, and as Recommended…
